What does RF3 mean in autoflower genetics?
The short answer: At Fast Buds, RF3 identifies autoflower lines that underwent further selection after their initial development. However, the breeder's own sources do not expand the abbreviation consistently.
The current Fast Buds RF3 collection page uses “Recombined Filial Generation 3”. It describes RF3 as at least three additional generations of breeding work. Other official Fast Buds pages explain RF3 as “Reversed F3”, involving a feminised reversed parent repeatedly introduced into the line.
The essential distinction

What do F3 and F5 mean in plant breeding?
In conventional breeding notation, F means filial, referring to an offspring generation. The number identifies the successive generation considered within a defined crossing scheme.
F3
The third filial generation follows F1 and F2. Depending on the parents, population size and selection, noticeable variation can still remain.
